Lantana

A working waterfront town with a family beach.

The neighborhood

Lantana is a working waterfront town on the Lake Worth Lagoon between Boynton Beach and Lake Worth Beach, with a family beach, a commercial fishing harbor, and a genuinely local character. It is one of the more authentic coastal communities in Palm Beach County.

The town's east side is the water: the municipal beach and pavilion, the marina, and the docks of the commercial fishing fleet. The west side reaches Lake Osborne, a freshwater lake ringed by parks and neighborhoods.

The housing stock is far more diverse than the resort towns to the east: older single-family homes on canalfront lots, established inland neighborhoods, waterfront condominiums, and fully renovated houses. For coastal buyers who want an authentic waterfront community at an accessible price, Lantana is one of the county's best values.

The downtown is compact and historic, with local restaurants and a small-town pace, while the beaches and dining of Delray Beach and the cultural life of Lake Worth Beach are minutes away. Lantana is where the working waterfront meets the Palm Beach County coast.

History

Lantana grew as a small farming and fishing settlement in the early 20th century and incorporated in 1921. The commercial fishing harbor and the railroad kept the town connected through the century, and Lantana has deliberately preserved a working, small-town character while the coast around it built up.

Commercial districts & employment

Lantana's economy is anchored by the commercial fishing harbor, small local businesses along the downtown and Dixie Highway, and the wider county service economy. Many residents commute to West Palm Beach and the county's employment centers.

Accessibility & getting around

Lantana sits on the coast between I-95 and the Florida Turnpike, with A1A, Federal Highway, and Lake Worth Road through the town. Palm Beach International Airport is about 15 minutes north and West Palm Beach's downtown about 20 minutes.

Lantana's median sits near $383,000 for the three months ending July 2026 (Redfin, down 3.2% year over year), with Homes.com 's trailing-twelve-month figure at about $390,000. An MLS-based August 2026 median of $508,750 reflects just eight house sales, so the town's headline numbers understate the coastal tier.

The spread is wide: lagoon-front, canalfront, and beach-adjacent properties carry the premium, while the inland neighborhoods and older stock anchor the median. For a coastal buyer, Lantana offers one of the more accessible water entry points in Palm Beach County.

FEMA flood zones

The lagoon front, canals, and beach-adjacent streets lie within FEMA flood zones. We verify the current FEMA map and elevation certificate for the property you are considering.

We review impact glazing, roof systems, elevation, and, for condominiums, the building's reserve funding and post-storm assessment history.

Seawalls & docks

For canalfront and lagoon homes, we assess seawall integrity and dock condition, which are significant maintenance costs and resale factors.

Boating access & clearances
